The United States became a haven for Iranian Jewry after the 1979 Islamic revolution, fearing religious persecution, and an unconcealed gradual disappearance of civil liberties in favor of the harsh rule of an intolerant interpretation of Islamic law. Inevitably, as for any other group of immigrants, bei ng unprepared for the differences in culture and traditions of their new home country presented overwhelming challenges for these new immigrants in fitting within their new communities. These challenges, along with the ever - present menace of religious assimilation, have been a destabilizing factor in the Jewish communities originating in Iran, threatening the future prospects of Iranian Jewish youth. Even now, after Twentyfive years since the beginning of the mass exodus of Iranian Jews, the community of Iranian Jews, hitherto reliant for its survival only on its close-knit community and family education, finds its endurance as a viable Jewish community in doubt.
